Temperature formulas

Fahrenheit to Celsius: (°F − 32) × 5/9. Celsius to Fahrenheit: (°C × 9/5) + 32.

When to use this tool

Use this converter to translate temperatures among Fahrenheit, Celsius, and Kelvin for weather, cooking, science, or travel.

How the result is calculated

Fahrenheit to Celsius uses (F − 32) × 5/9. Celsius to Fahrenheit uses C × 9/5 + 32. Kelvin and Celsius have the same interval size, with 0°C equal to 273.15 K.

Worked example

A room temperature of 72°F is about 22.22°C. Water freezes at 32°F, 0°C, or 273.15 K under standard reference conditions.

What to keep in mind

Temperature conversions are mathematical. Real-world boiling and freezing points can shift with pressure, altitude, dissolved substances, and measurement conditions.
