Pace formula

Total elapsed time ÷ distance = average pace per distance unit.

When to use this tool

Use the pace calculator to translate distance and elapsed time into pace per distance unit and average speed. It is useful for running, walking, cycling, and training logs.

How the result is calculated

The tool converts the entered time to seconds, divides by distance to find time per unit, and also calculates average distance per hour.

Worked example

A 5-unit distance completed in 40 minutes averages 8:00 per unit and 7.5 units per hour.

What to keep in mind

Use consistent distance units. Course measurement, GPS error, stops, terrain, and rounding can make real training data differ from the mathematical average.
