Date difference

The result is the absolute number of calendar-day boundaries between the dates.

When to use this tool

Use this calculator to measure the elapsed calendar-day difference between two dates. It is useful for trip lengths, project timelines, event countdowns, and date comparisons.

How the result is calculated

The tool converts both dates to comparable date values and counts the number of day boundaries between them. The displayed result is the absolute difference, so reversing the dates does not create a negative number.

Worked example

If two dates are exactly one week apart, the result is seven calendar days.

What to keep in mind

Inclusive counting can differ from elapsed-day counting. If a rule says to count both the starting and ending dates, you may need to add one day to an elapsed-day result.
